Our Tale
The Groggy Dogs is a pirate band that blends Punk, Metal and Ska with sea shanties and traditional Celtic melodies, forging a powerful yet playful sound that makes you want to dance, drink and shout along with a jug of grog in hand.
The idea for The Groggy Dogs was born in April 2020, just a month after the Covid-19 lockdown. Mauro (The Cap’n, vocals and guitar), after years in Celtic music projects, wanted to push further the idea of taking traditional Celtic tunes and turning them into something more raw, loud and rebellious. A passionate fan of old sea songs, he thought it would be the perfect time to bring them into the mix of Punk, Metal and Ska. Soon after, the crew was complete with Fátima Caballero (The Voodoo Witch, violin), Carlos Ghirlanda (The Cook, bass), Seba Santa Cruz (The Buccaneer, accordion) and Lucas Hidalgo (The Deadman, drums).
Their debut album Grog o’Clock was released on April 9th, 2021. Recorded in mid-2020, it features 8 tracks loaded with Punk, Metal, Ska, Celtic melodies and classic shanties—a perfect soundtrack for partying, dancing and raiding the rum cellar. Singles from the album included “All For Me Grog,” “Drunken Sailor,” “The Coast of High Barbary,” and “Ten Thousand Miles Away.”
A year later, the pirate quintet returned with their second full-length, Still Groggin’, another 8-track feast (or “recipes”) for a wild night out. With songs like “Old Maui,” “The Dreadnought” and “Leave Her Johnny,” the band once again proved that power, revelry and endless rum are the ultimate cocktail for any pirate raid.
Since 2023, The Groggy Dogs have been sailing across Europe, raiding Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal (Azores Islands), the Czech Republic, the UK and their home coasts of Spain. Along the way, they have plundered major festivals such as Castlefest, Kingdom of Elfia, Triskell and Keltská Noc, spreading their rowdy pirate spirit across the continent.
